Free antivirus from Microsoft

Microsoft had set out all the stops in conjunction with the launch of OneCare security package. Now they have abandoned the project and give it instead to all Windows users.

Microsoft has abandoned its attempt to gain a foothold in the market for security software for home users. Microsoft has since 2006 sold the subscription-based package OneCare, which includes antivirus, PC optimization and back-up, but now the software company announced that sales of OneCare will be stopped on 30 June next year. The company has previously sold Windows Live OneCare for 50 U.S. dollars a year to license to three computers.

Instead, Microsoft will offer a free security under the code name Morro which protects against viruses, trojans, spyware and rootkits. Microsoft’s decision is good news for the Danish Windows users, which until now has not had access to OneCare. The new free security Morro will be available to users in all countries, and is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2009. The free program supports both Windows XP, Windows Vista and the upcoming Windows 7
