After a long try, the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) foundation has bring very affordable and functional tablet for kids, called the OLPC XO 3.0 tablet. OLPC has not only introduced the XO 3.0 at CES in Las Vegas but also is ready to put the device into production.
The OLPC XO 3.0 tablet has been designed by Yves Behar. It has a rugged case and can be charged on the go through a hand crank or solar panel. The CEO of OLPC Ed McNierney claimed that the 2 watt tablet can get 10 minutes of runtime from 1 minute of cranking.
The OLPC XO 3.0 tablet comes with an 8 inches display screen that supports resolution of up to 1024 x 768 pixels. It houses a Marvell Armada PXA618 chip, 512 MB or RAM and 4 GB internal storage. The new tablet is equipped with standard USB, microUSB, audio in/out, sensor input etc.
The OLPC XO 3.0 tablet is likely to come with either Android or OLPC’s own Sugar mobile operating system. It will also provide plenty of educational and fun apps for kids. This new tablet for children can be purchased with the price tag of $100.
