Bharti Airtel, the largest telecom service provider of India planed to launch iPhone4 in the month of September in India. The iPhone4 is the newest product of Apple Computers. This announcement is made by Sanjay Kapoor when he is interacting with media in the CII conference at New Delhi on Monday. Sanjay Kapoor is the chief executive for South Asia and India. He said, “We are working with Apple. Hopefully in the September-October time frame we would launch the phone.”
Airtel spokesman said, “60 percent of Airtel’s subscribers are from rural market and iPhone 4 will be available in the country by September through Airtel stores.” The company Bharti Airtel must obtain the clearance of government before placing the purchase order of any equipment. Because this year India barred some operator of mobile market from placing orders with ZTE Corp and Huawei Technology of China for some security concerns.
Bharti Airtel won 13 circle in a concluded auction for third-generation (3G) spectrum, selling out about Rs 12,295 crore or $2.73 billion. Vodafone Essar also announced earlier in June about its plan to launch the iPhone4 in India but the company did not declare a time frame. The sources of Bharti Airtel said, the company is going to launch iPhone4 in September in India. The Bharti’s Sanjay Kapoor told, “”I think operators have gone through a bit of a lull in the last six months on equipment clearances but now things have begun to ease up and we are getting the equipment in place.”
Bharti Airtel is already selling iPhone4 3GS in India at the cost of Rs 35,500 for the model of 16GB and the model of 32 GB at the price of 41,500. Kapoor also said, “They would work towards “aggressive time lines” for the roll out of 3G services, without elaborating further. A very large amount of the network is 3G ready.”
