Warriors' Game 5 win wraps up highly-watched NBA Finals

He hugged mother Wanda many a time.

The Warriors took the championship title away from the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night, winning Game 5 129-120 and the series 4-1.

LeBron James, last year's Finals MVP, led the Cavaliers with 41 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists but it was not enough as the home team came out on top.

With the off-season acquisition of Durant, the Warriors, arguably, have the NBA's best collection of players in recent decades.

Kyrie Irving had 26 points and J.R. Smith 25 for the Cavaliers, who, like the Warriors, were competing in their third straight Finals.

Curry, Durant, 3-point sharpshooter Klay Thompson and forward Draymond Green are all under 30 and formidable starters.

The answer: An emphatic no.

It all added up to Golden State's second championship in three years. A year ago, these Warriors fell short after a record-setting season that included a 24-0 start and 73 victories at the end to break the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' wins mark.

Durant and Curry were always right in the middle, yet they stayed loose and focused by building their own relationship - not to mention shooting skills - through regular shooting contests that were oh so close. I'd be honored to welcome the team to the U.S. Capitol. Like I said, tried to be myself, be aggressive and sacrifice as well.

Andrew, when you get a little older, I think you'll understand. As a grinning Curry held daughter Riley in his arms, Durant stood next to them with his left hand on the point guard's head. We can't wait to see these celebrations and watch the cheering fans! "Like I said, tried to be myself, be aggressive and sacrifice as well". We haven't won every Finals, obviously. "BUT: me and @mdollas11 beefing all summer!"

Curry shot 10 of 20 and completed a double-double with a game-high 10 assists.

Warriors small forward Andre Iguodala believes such an offer may not even be extended from Washington. "Steve will be our coach".

During his absence, Kerr was still involved at practice, but he handed the game day responsibilities to assistant coach Mike Brown.

The 2017 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers was as exciting as expected.

The Warriors won in 2015 before the Cavs made their historic comeback previous year. The team's four All-Stars shared the scoring wealth and played tough defense.

"The man who's going to lead you has routinely used racist, misogynist, insulting words, that's a tough one", Kerr said of Trump at the time.

Monday's loss denied the Cavaliers a chance to repeat as champions and for James to get his fourth championship ring.

But that idea fizzled fast when the Warriors opened with a pair of lopsided wins at home, fought back late to steal the next game in Cleveland and then, after dropping their first game of the postseason, closed out the series at home.

"As far as that team, they're going to be here for a while", James said of the Warriors.
