US, NK officials ahead of student's release

After two doctors visited Warmbier, a USA official demanded his release on humanitarian grounds, the State Department said, and he was evacuated Tuesday.

Fox News reported that Warmbier was on a military plane expected to land in Cincinnati late Tuesday, after which he would receive urgent hospital treatment.

"Our son is coming home", his father Fred told the Washington Post last night.

Warmbier, a University of Virginia undergraduate, was visiting the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, as part of a student tour group. "How did he fall into a coma?". According to the North Koreans, he then contracted botulism and fell into a coma. And how does the Trump administration respond?

"At the direction of the president, the Department of State has secured the release of Otto Warmbier from North Korea", Tillerson said in a statement.

Dennis Rodman, the former National Basketball Association bad boy who has palled around with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, flew back to Pyongyang on Tuesday for the first time in Donald Trump's presidency.

Before arriving this time, Rodman told reporters that Trump would be happy with the trip, since he was "trying to accomplish something that we both need", sparking speculation that he may be operating as an unofficial envoy.

The State Department denied any connection between Warmbier's release and Rodman's visit, which President Donald Trump's administration said it did not authorize. Instead, he was apprehended on January 2, 2016 at the Pyongyang International Airport on charges of committing a "hostile act" against the state, as he was preparing to leave the country.

The DPRK Supreme Court sentenced him to 15 years of hard labor last March after he tearfully confessed in a televised proceeding.

United Nations sanctions limit North Korea's diplomats overseas - at the country's Berlin embassy, for example - to only one bank account each. Three Americans remain in custody. "No one", Fred Warmbier said. However it remains to be seen whether his visit is related to the Americans who are still detained in North Korea.

Tillerson consulted with Trump, and arrangements were made for Yun and a medical team to travel to Pyongyang, the official said.

The sponsorship details were not known but PotCoin said in a press statement that Rodman would provide more information about his trip upon returning to the United States. The visit was the first time the United States was able to confirm Warmbier's status after he was sentenced. That's when US officials first learned Warmbier was in a coma. But if he died, in addition to reducing North Korean negotiating power, he could provoke retaliation. "American and medical officials would get out".

University of Virginia president Teresa Sullivan said the whole UVA community was relieved to learn of Warmbier's release but was "deeply concerned and saddened to learn from his family that he is in a coma".

Yun arrived in Pyongyang early Monday with two USA physicians.

Health care professionals have also weighed in on Warmbier's case, though they decline to offer specific explanations for what he may be suffering from and why.

Otto Warmbier, a USA university student held captive in North Korea for 17 months, has been released, but a former US official said on Tuesday he is in a coma and in urgent need of medical care.

He said the North Korea issue would be discussed with China, Pyongyang's major ally, at a high-level talks next week.

Mr Warmbier was released on Tuesday but had to be medically evacuated from the country after it emerged he had been in a coma since he was jailed.

"We want the world to know how we and our son have been brutalized and terrorized by the pariah regime in North Korea".

They also said they are grateful he "will finally be with people who love him". He noted that North Koreans had refused to let Swedish officials visit or contact him for more than a year.

Warmbier was to have graduated last month had he not been detained.

The US State Department, however, said the two events were unrelated.

The three are businessman Kim Dong Chul, arrested in April 2016, and two academics at the Western-funded, private Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, Tony Kim and Kim Hak-Song, arrested in April and May this year.
