As results poured in Thursday night for the United Kingdom's general election battle between incumbent Prime Minister Theresa May and insurgent Labour candidate Jeremy Corbyn, the leftist challenger took a moment to snap photos with fellow Labour Parliament Member Emily Thornberry.

Turnout was up highest in more than two decades in Islington South, at just under 70 per cent. She said: "At the start of the campaign, we were 10 points behind in the polls, which predicted Welsh Labour losing at least 10 seats".

"Jeremy Corbyn appears to have been vindicated", said Mike Finn, politics researcher at the University of Warwick.

The Conservatives remain the largest party but Mr Corbyn's party are feeling buoyant after their vote share soared.

Ms May called the snap election to win a clear mandate for her Brexit plans, so she could slash immigration. "It's awesome that Theresa May has been shown the back door by people".

Turning to the prospect of a deal between the Tories and the Democratic Unionist Party, Galloway said "if you're giving to one area of the United Kingdom, you're not giving to others, and that'll soon cause resentment".
