The Pittsburgh Penguins close out another Cup title

Penguins' Captain Sidney Crosby celebrates with his family after winning the Stanley Cup.

Sheary made his National Hockey League debut on December 16, 2015, and appeared in 44 regular season games with Pittsburgh in 2015-16 as a rookie, logging 10 points.

On Sunday night, after Sidney Crosby lifted the Stanley Cup for the second consecutive year and for the third time in his career, Penguins owner Mario Lemieux was asked on NBCSN if he ever saw this kind of success coming for the Penguins captain, back when Crosby was a rookie and living in Lemieux's house.

"I think (Evgeni Malkin) comes to mind right away", said Crosby. "But I do believe that just in my time in Pittsburgh with them, I think they're appreciative of one another".

Crosby had 27 points in 25 playoff games, but just one goal and six assists in the Cup Final.

It marks the fourth time a former Minuteman has won the Stanley Cup as Sheary joins goaltender Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles Kings - 2012, 2014) as the program's second two-time Stanley Cup champion.

"I don't know that I've been around an athlete, not just a hockey player but an athlete, that is as driven as Sid is", said Sullivan, who played more than 700 NHL games before stepping into the coaching realm.

Penguins closed the matchup with the Nashville Predators with 4-2 in series, and that was enough for them to become the champions for the second year in a row.

In fact, since 2009, the Penguins first Cup with Crosby, six of the past nine Stanley Cups have gone to either Chicago or Pittsburgh.

And it's the second championship in 18 months for coach Mike Sullivan, who has yet to lose a playoff series since taking over after Mike Johnston was sacked.

Pittsburgh had two close calls in the final minute of what was the best period yet of the Final series but were denied by Predators goalie Rinne and hit a post seconds later.

And for people who say, "Oh, well hockey doesn't need to be in the South", this should be example A, B, and C as to why it does deserve to be in the South.

"The first two times he chose to have community things, and we'll see what happens if he wants to share it with the community again", Mason said.

The Penguins lead the series 3-2, and seeking to become the NHL's first team to win consecutive Stanley Cup championships since Detroit won in 1997 and '98.

"The details, what he wants to accomplish, it's pretty incredible", Letang, Crosby's long-time Penguins teammate, said with admiration earlier this month. He only had to miss one game due to injury. Rinne will still finish with the top save percentage in the playoffs with a.928%, but in the finals, he went only.866% and on the road, it was an abysmal.756%.

Crosby was the youngest player in the tournament at 14, playing against kids two and three years older. Until that point, we haven't seen any goals, and the game was incredibly intense. If they won the Cup this year, he would have surely retired.
