Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant look to build a Warriors dynasty

The Golden State Warriors earned their second National Basketball Association title in three years with a 129 to 120 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Oakland Monday night, led by All-Star forward Kevin Durant's 39 points and strong bench scoring.

The Golden State Warriors are NBA champions once again, and this time it's thanks largely to the newest addition to their starting five, Kevin Durant, who was awarded the NBA Finals MVP award for his play in the series.

LeBron James may be the game's greatest player but the manner in which his Cleveland Cavaliers were dispatched in the NBA Finals on Monday may have signalled that his championship window has been slammed shut.

The adorable 4-year-old daughter of Warriors star Stephen Curry, who stole the show with her press conference antics during Golden State's championship run in 2015, was back in the spotlight celebrating another championship with dad. The reigning NBA Coach of the Year returned for Game 2 of the Finals following a six-week absence from the bench. Kyrie Irving finished with 26 points but shot 9 for 22.

Another triple-double for James is customary as he will most likely become the first player in Finals history to average a triple-double, but that wasn't the story this game. Then he moved across the podium and hugged Stephen Curry before accepting his shiny MVP trophy, holding out his arms and hoisting it for everyone to see.

They were fabulous and flawed defending National Basketball Association champs, their deficiencies in depth and defense exposed by a superior team in the Finals.

He was incredible throughout the entirety of the series, but his game-high 41 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists wasn't enough to send the series back to Cleveland for Game 6. He was the unanimous choice for Finals MVP, averaging 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 blocks and a steal per game in the series, including 39 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the closeout game.

"Well, it's a two-sided question because for me personally - I don't know", said James.

In the second quarter of the contest, James ran down the court on a fast break against Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson.

That wasn't the only time James got the best of Durant on a dunk during the NBA Finals.

J.R. Smith knocked down a 3-pointer just before the first quarter ended to give the Cavaliers a 37-33 lead Monday night in a period filled with free throws.

The Cavaliers like to play a more rugged game using the size and strength of James, Love and Tristan Thompson to their advantage.

If you roll back the footage from Golden State's Game 5 victory, Hart has a point.

"We weren't able to get over the hump and accomplish what we ultimately wanted to do", he added. And throughout the Finals, it often looked as though they were listening to him.

The win provided redemption for the Warriors, who brought Kevin Durant over from the Oklahoma City Thunder last offseason to bolster their already high-powered offense.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue was asked about his team's needs when told of Kerr's comments.
