North Korea Taunts Trump

North Korea's latest missile launch was a successful test of a new type of "ground-to-sea cruise rocket", Pyongyang's state media said Friday.

The European Union also put four more entities - companies or state bodies - on its blacklist, bringing the total to 94 North Korean people and 53 entities sanctioned.

North Korea launched multiple missiles towards the Sea of Japan (East Sea) from near the eastern coastal city of Wonsan in Gangwon Province at 0618 KST yesterday, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said on Thursday morning.

The three previous tests were of ballistic missiles, with North Korea appearing determined to develop a missile capable of carrying a nuclear weapon and reaching the USA mainland.

Roh Jae-cheon, spokesman of Seoul's military, said the latest launch would have meant to show off its widening arrange of missiles and also its "precision strike capabilities" on ships in response to the joint drills.

A spokesman for the office said the launch seemed to be a test created to answer recent United States naval exercises in the region.

"As I have repeatedly said before, I will not back off a single step or make any compromise on matters concering national security and public safety.".

North Korea's regime has claimed that its new rocket could deliver a "large heavy nuclear warhead" all the way to the U.S. mainland.

But, to his chief officials President Moon stressed the need for a fundamentally different approach in addressing the North Korean problem.

The launches Thursday were North Korea's fourth missile test in as many weeks as the country continues to speed up its development of nuclear weapons and missiles.

North Korea test-fired the Hwasong-12 medium- to long-range ballistic missile May 14, followed by the Pukguksong-2 on May 21.

North Korea is believed to have figured out how to mount a miniaturized nuclear bomb on a ballistic missile, the re-entry vehicle is suspected to have survived the IRBM test, and the North's engine technology has improved.

South Korea's military says the launch appears to be barrage of land-to-ship missiles fired off North's east coast.

A joint investigation by South Korean and USA militaries has concluded the craft were on reconnaissance missions for the North, which has denied sending spy drones, however, dismissing the findings as a fabrication.

Thursday's launch is also aimed at pressuring Seoul and Washington ahead of a planned summit between Moon and Trump late June, said Hong Hyun-ik, analyst at the Sejong Institute think tank.

Pyongyang has ordered three ballistic missile launches, a surface-to-air missile, and yesterday's cruise missile tests since the South's President Moon Jae In took power last month. The deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system became a huge issue when new South Korean President Moon Jae-In revealed that he wasn't aware of the entirety of the installation deal.

The THAAD system deployment was agreed on by the United States and South Korea in July 2016, following five months of negotiations with the previous Korean administration.
