Kershaw wins, Bellinger hits 2 homers as Dodgers top Indians

Bellinger led off the eighth with a towering drive into the right-field seats off Miller (3-1).

Anyone following the Indians would not be surprised at Miller working out of a jam not of his own creation.

"Andrew's been so good and so flawless and to have something like that happen, I think it kind of stunned everybody to a point", said Indians bench coach Brad Mills, who filled in for manager Terry Francona during the postgame interview session after Francona left the dugout in the ninth inning with an illness. Bench coach Brad Mills fdid the postgame interview in place of Francona, but he said little about why Francona left the game.

Last year Francona missed a game on August 9 when the Indians were playing the Nationals in Washington, D.C. He complained of chest pains before the game.

Kershaw (9-2) allowed two runs in seven innings and has not lost in his last eight starts.

Marlins 8, Athletics 1: Giancarlo Stanton returned to the Marlins' starting lineup after recovering from a bruised wrist and hit a two-run homer to help beat Oakland.

With two runs in the eighth inning, the Dodgers (40-25) broke a tie game, and three insurance runs in the ninth proved critical, as they provided enough of a cushion to secure a 7-5 win over the Indians (31-30). "When he steps into the box, he tries to do damage, and he's been doing it".

The three-time Cy Young Award victor yielded six hits, struck out four and walked two while throwing 101 pitches.

That became more than icing on the cake when Dodgers reliever Chris Hatcher gave up a three-run home run to Daniel Robertson in the ninth inning.

Kenley Jansen recorded the final out of the game for his 12th save of the season and 201st in his Major League Baseball career. McCarthy dropped a 2-1 decision against the Nationals last time out with a run scoring on two hits and two BB in seven frames.

Later, in the top of the sixth, with the score 2-2 and the bases full of Dodgers, Andrew Miller walked to the mound from the bullpen to relieve Bauer and figuratively flipped Puig the middle finger by striking out the Los Angeles right-handed slugger as Puig swung futilely at Miller's nearly unhittable slider.

The Indians got a run back in the third inning, which began with Robertson hitting a double into the left-field corner. Michael Brantley singled in Robertson (double) to cut the two-run deficit in half.

"It was not a great night for me".

"I thought he battled through it". "My fastball was pretty erratic, and I was falling behind hitters".

"We know he's a good pitcher, but I would expect guys are going up there grinding out at-bats", Miller said.

NOTES: The Indians will bring up RHP Mike Clevinger and LHP Ryan Merritt from Triple-A Columbus to start the two games of their doubleheader Saturday in Minnesota. In 16 career interleague starts, Kluber is 11-3 with a 2.34 ERA.

Dodgers: 1B Adrian Gonzalez was placed on the 10-day disabled list with lower back discomfort. Taylor came around to score on a fielder's choice from center fielder Joc Pederson when a relay throw from second baseman Jason Kipnis bounced over Carlos Santana's glove at first base and dribbled into foul territory.
