Gingrich: Mueller Investigation 'Poisoned Fruit' After Comey Testimony

Donald Trump Jr. on Saturday seemed to back up former FBI Director James Comey's claim that President Donald Trump asked him to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Trump said he is "100 percent" willing to "speak under oath" to give his version of those events.

"I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go".

Comey also told the hearing that he had explained to Sessions' deputy, Rod Rosenstein, "my serious concern about the way in which the president is interacting, especially with the FBI". When Sen. Angus King, the ME independent, asked Comey whether he took as a directive Trump's expressed "hope" that Comey drop the FBI's probe of ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn, Comey reached back to the words of 12th-century autocrat Henry II that led to the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket.

"I would be glad to tell him exactly what I told you", Trump said.

Comey was pilloried for his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, yet is now seen as a critical cog in the inquiry into possible connections between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

He promised to complete the probe "as quickly as we could" but would not say in public what he had assured Trump thrice in private that he personally was not under investigation to avoid a "J Edgar Hoover like situation".

Trump stopped short of saying that Comey lied under oath. Who, then, is more credible?

The POTUS, Comey claimed, had also sought a loyalty pledge at a one-on-one dinner at the White House a week after his inauguration.

His comment came during an interview with Jeanine Pirro, a former NY district attorney and judge who is a longtime friend of the Trump family.

In that same testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey accused the president of directing him to drop the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe of Michael Flynn during a private White House meeting.

Comey, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and other officials attended a briefing at the White House on February 14.

The U.S. Secret Service said Monday, June 12 it does not have any audio recordings or transcripts of U.S. President Donald Trump's White House conversations, AFP reports. "Those were lies, plain and simple".

Since his ominous tweet, Trump has repeatedly refused to confirm or deny whether those tapes exist. "Yes", Comey said, "it rings in my ear as kind of, 'Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?'" "It's possible but it's highly unlikely", Lewandowski said on "GMA" this morning. "And we are supposed to believe this will be an objective, unbiased investigation?" Mark Warner of Virginia, a Democrat, was a forceful questioner.

Perhaps the largest stain on his record involves his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server as secretary of state.

By contrast, Republican George W. Bush, the most recent president to win election while losing the popular vote, took steps during his first months in office to woo the opposition party. Many Democrats, including Clinton herself, have partially blamed Trump's victory on that announcement.
