Fasten your seatbelt for Mario Kart in VR

Still this makes Mario Kart VR Nintendo's first official VR game. Now, they're looking to freshen up the image of their out of home entertainment business by opening dedicated VR Arcades, complete with seated motion platforms and HTC Vive virtual reality powered experiences.

The company hasn't made any official note about the game coming to the USA, but it's certainly a possibility, since more arcades are starting to adapt to virtual reality technology.

The company is dipping its toe with a small mini "VR Zone Portal" venue first, opening in London this summer with 3-4 new VR IP present. The course is filled with the well-known Mario Kart traps and tricks. Despair Jungle pairs with a VR treadmill system; Height Fear Show pairs with a harness system for safety, and to enhance the experience; and you can sit in a cockpit simulator to play a spaceship game called The Soul of the Soul.

You read that right - a VR-based Mario Kart title.

Bandai Namco are developing the videogame, as they have done for the previous videogames in the franchise, Mario Kart Arcade GP, Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 and Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, only this time players will assume the driver's seat directly in VR.

However, that hasn't stopped Bandai Namco creating a VR version of Mario Kart Arcade GP, which is now available on the HTC Vive headset.

"With the flagship VR Zone Shinjuku being the hub, we'd like to spread VR Zone facilities around the world", Yoshiyasu Horiuchi, an executive at Bandai Namco, said during a news conference at the firm's headquarters.
