Cosby feared accuser in sexual assault trial was recording their conversations

He has said the sexual encounter was consensual.

Cosby's defense team tried claimed "mistrial" after that witness spoke and they questioned her integrity, but the judge dismissed it. The defense will begin presenting its side on Monday. Defendant puts a new twist on an old argument: "that because Ms. Constand did not reveal this most personal detail about her life she must have been asking for defendant to drug and sexually assault her".

Lead defense attorney Brian McMonagle asked Shaffer about Cosby's insistence that Constand was not incapacitated at the time of the incident. His spokesman says it's under consideration. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 15 to 30 years in prison. She alleges that she consented to nothing, and that Bill Cosby drugged her.

WHAT'S NEXT: Prosecutors are expected to use more of the deposition, including Cosby talking about giving quaaludes and alcohol to women he wanted to have sex with. Prosecutors have suggested he could have. She was in the courtroom Friday.

A federal judge's decision to unseal Cosby's deposition in 2015 prompted prosecutors in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, to reopen the case and later bring charges just before the statute of limitations expired.

Cosby, 79, said last month that he would not testify, but a week into the sexual assault trial, his publicist said it's now a possibility.

He testified a year ago that he had talked with Cosby's lawyer before making his decision and that it was meant to let Cosby speak freely at a potential civil deposition - the same deposition that prosecutors are now relying on at his trial.

Cosby testified that Constand was "talking about stress" and that he gave Constand Benadryl, "the equivalent of one and a half".

Wyatt says some members of Cosby's family will join him in court as the trial wears on.

Valliere said survivors initially resist verbally and then their response is usually shock, especially if the perpetrator is someone they know. But those passages were not read to jurors on Friday, and it's unclear when or if they will ever hear about his use of the powerful sedative.

About 50 women have made allegations against Cosby.

But if Cosby testifies, prosecutors could be permitted to call other accusers to rebut Cosby's testimony, said lawyer Joseph Amendola. "What are they going to do if I tell them about it. And.to be perfectly frank, I'm hoping and praying nobody is recording me".

"If it's a well-known person, the victim takes on a lot of responsibility for that person's reputation". After "necking" on the couch, Cosby went to bed and Constand slept on the couch.

Cosby also said in the deposition he promised to tell Andrea Costand's mother what kind of pills he gave her on the night Costand says he sexually assaulted her, but later changed his mind because he feared his conversation with her was recorded. Though it seemed unlikely Friday morning; Reape had been the primary witness enlisted to recite Cosby's deposition for jurors. Cosby refused to answer and said he'd send them in the mail.

A toxicologist testified Friday that the effects Constand said she experienced - she testified that she got blurry vision and rubbery legs and was "frozen" as Cosby pawed at and penetrated her with his fingers - could have come from either medication.

Constand's sexual orientation has not been mentioned during the trial.

Cosby was accompanied to the courthouse Friday by comedian Joe Torry, who a day earlier joined fellow actor and comedian Lewis Dix in support of the actor. On Wednesday, actress Sheila Frazier and her hairstylist husband, John Atchison, arrived with Cosby. Earlier in the week, Keshia Knight-Pulliam, who played the youngest daughter, Rudy, on "The Cosby Show, " attended in support of Cosby. "The mother is coming at me for being a dirty old man".

In a 2005 deposition, Cosby admitted obtaining seven prescriptions for Quaaludes, a disco-era party drug, from a Hollywood gynecologist in the '70s.
