UK health minister: No second spike in cyber attacks is 'encouraging'

Europol's chief has warned the threat of the cyber attack which took down worldwide services "will continue to grow" when people return to work on Monday.

NHS Digital has announced updated guidelines on protecting against future cyber-attacks including instructions to install a patch to protect systems against further attacks and malicious viruses.

The spokesman for Dorset CCG said: "We are pleased to confirm that the Ransomware attack has had little impact on the health community in Dorset, however we continue to be vigilant".

Microsoft have said that the cyber-attack which has impacted 150 countries must be treated as a "wake-up call" by governments around the world.

In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said late Sunday that his country was largely unaffected by the ransomware attack after it began preparing for such events several years ago through its new National Cyberdefence Authority.

The numbers are going up.

They proposed a plan to improve security that included a replacement of outdated systems "as a matter of urgency", calling the continued use "one of the most pressing issues facing IT infrastructure" in the NHS. The Administration noted that this global attack shows again the unprecedented challenges ahead in terms of Internet security.

The cyber attack which hit the NHS was a ransomware attack which encrypts files on a user's computer, blocking them from view and threatening to delete them unless a payment is made.

The biggest thing is that experts say download all security updates whenever they pop up on your computer.

The UK National Health Service was among those hardest hit, with officials estimating that as many as 70,000 different devices may have been impacted - including vital health care equipment like blood-storage refrigerators, MRI scanners, and critical computer systems.

By paying you can help to create a new market for cyber criminals, which could lead to further cyber attacks.
