Trump Gave Russians Secrets News Orgs Are Being Asked To Withhold

The Washington Post reported Monday that Trump disclosed information related to an ISIS threat during a meeting in the White House on Wednesday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak.

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov adjust his glasses during a press conference after a meeting with his Cyprus counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides at the foreign ministry in capital Nicosia, Cyprus, on Thursday, May 18, 201.

Some of the classified intelligence that President Donald Trump shared with the Russians is so secret that the media is being asked not to report it, NBC News reported.

"As far as I can recall, maybe one month or two months earlier, the Trump administration had a laptop ban from seven Middle Eastern countries, and that it was connected directly to a terrorist threat", Lavrov told reporters in Nicosia, speaking through an interpreter.

He said the US and Russian Federation must pool efforts in the fight against terrorism and work together to strengthen nuclear non-proliferation.

USA intelligence officials have asked NBC News and other media organizations not to report the type of equipment, where it was stolen, and the name of the city where the intelligence was gathered, because doing so could harm US national security, they say.

The Russian word "pravda" means truth, while "izvestia" means news.

Trump sent out the tweets after a Washington Post story accused him of revealing highly classified information to Russian officials during last week's Oval Office meeting.

Israeli intelligence officials say this amounts to their "worst fears confirmed", that the United States, with whom they have an exclusive intelligence-sharing deal, are passing that information along without Israel's prior knowledge.

The Post quoted a senior US officials as calling the intelligence "code-word information" - referring to one of the highest classification levels used in the American intelligence community.

Lavrov said: "So, if you're talking about that, I see no secret here".
