Tim Cook is testing a glucose tracker for the Apple Watch

The report claims that the team is "part of a super secret initiative, initially envisioned by the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, to develop sensors that can non invasively and continuously monitor blood sugar levels to better treat diabetes". Now according to a report from CNBC, it seems that Apple's CEO Tim Cook could already be personally testing it out himself.

CEO Tim Cook has been spotted on the company's campus with a wearable device attatched to his Apple Watch that tracks his blood sugar level, sources told CNBC on Thursday. The team are reportedly working on non-invasive sensors which wouldn't require users to prick their skin for blood testing. Glucose trackers now on the market use sensors that penetrate the skin. There are millions of people around the globe who have diabetes, and if Apple can deliver them a new tool that accurately measures their glucose levels, the company could stand to generate significant revenue on that investment. The company recently acquired sleep monitoring company Beddit to potentially bolster its offering of sleep monitoring software. The chief executive conveyed to them that he had been wearing a continuous monitoring glucose monitor on his wrist for quite some time. "I just took it off before coming on this trip".

"There is lots of hope out there that if someone has constant knowledge of what they are eating, they can instantly know what causes the response and that they can adjust well before they become diabetic", Cook said.

Apple wants to make its smartwatch more than an average smart wearable available in the market. I wouldn't mind putting something adjacent to the watch through it, but not the watch, because it would hold us back from innovating too much, the cycles are too long.

It isn't yet clear if the device will be embedded into a future version of the Apple Watch, or if the finished product will be created to be worn separately.
