According to ABC News, police say an 18-year-old woman was struck and killed by the auto and 22 were taken to nearby hospitals.

One senior official said the suspect was being tested for possible of drug or alcohol intoxication. The NYPD tweeted at this point there is no indication that the crash is related to terrorism and the incident is believed to be isolated.

NY mayor Bill de Blasio said: "Based on the information we have at this moment, there is no indication that this was an act of terrorism".

The sidewalks in many parts of Times Square and surrounding blocks are lined with metal posts created to prevent cars from getting onto the sidewalks and other public areas.
