Protester killed, AP journalist wounded in West Bank clash

The situation on the ground in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Friday reached a critical and unsafe juncture as the health of the hunger-striking Palestinian political prisoners continued to deteriorate on the 33rd day of their strike.

Palestinian witnesses say an Israeli settler opened fire on a crowd of Palestinian protesters after his auto was attacked by demonstrators Thursday. Israeli forces meanwhile killed 245 Palestinians. While Palestinian media reported injuries due to tank fire, the IDF denied the claims. Their health is in danger and they are being subjected to violent and coercive measures and policies by the Israeli Prison Service and special units, attempting to push the prisoners to end their hunger strike. And journalist Peter Beinart, in the Forward, recently claimed that the Palestinian Arabs "are colonial subjects" and that "West Bank Palestinians can not vote for the government that dominates their lives".

Following the fatal shooting, the Israeli assailants' auto struck an ambulance, and rammed three Palestinians, causing mild wounds.

On Tuesday, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Michael Lynk, stated that force-feeding amounted to torture, adding that administrative detention, or imprisonment without trial, was against worldwide law.

Israeli occupation forces arrested two Palestinians overnight for involvement in a clash that led to an Israeli settler shooting dead a Palestinian in the illegally occupied West Bank, officials said on Friday.

An Israeli settler was set free by police on Thursday, after he shot and killed a Palestinian man in the West Bank, saying that he "feared for his life".

The incident took place after Israeli soldiers attacked dozens of Palestinians, marching in solidarity with the detainees, ongoing with the hunger strike they started on April 17.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has called for the settler's arrest over the killing of the young man.

Protesters also blockaded roads and intersections with burning tyres and debris throughout the occupied territory, while entrances to some offices of the United Nations and Red Cross were blocked. There is no Israeli military governor ruling over them. "The process should aim at tangible results, while engaging with important stakeholders and other global actors and make effective use of the existing leverage and instruments of the European Union", she said.
