President Trump: I Didn't Ask Comey to Drop The Flynn Investigation

Alongside the president of Colombia, Trump answered questions that largely focused on the investigation into his team's possible ties to Russian Federation, his firing of FBI Director James Comey, and the special counsel appointment.

Early on Thursday morning, Trump tweeted that he believed he was a victim to "the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!"

President Donald Trump on Thursday denied ever asking FBI Director James Comey to back off his agency's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, and the role played by former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Trump also contended that Comey "was very unpopular with most people" in Washington - Republicans and Democrats.

"That's what I want to be focused on, because there's no collusion". "Everybody thinks so. And again, we have to get back to working our country properly so that we can take care of the problems that we have".

Trump is responding to the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to lead a probe of allegations that Trump's campaign collaborated with Russian Federation to sway the election.

Ryan spoke at a weekly briefing following news late Wednesday that former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert Mueller has been appointed special counsel to oversee the investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election. The House Intelligence Committee asked Thursday for more documents related to Comey's firing. He then said "the wall" would help stop the flow of Colombian narcotics into the United States, referring to his promised U.S. -Mexico border barrier. "We're going to have a director that's going to be outstanding".

He later reiterated: "There was no collusion, and everybody - even my enemies have said, there is no collusion".

"It shows we're a divided, mixed-up, not-unified country", Trump told the group.

The allegation was made by Comey himself in a memo he wrote after a meeting in February. "I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go", said Trump, according to a source who read the memo. Santos is expected to ask Mr. Trump, who is making cuts to foreign aid, to renew funding to support a peace agreement between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

President Trump in the joint press conference emphasized that Colombia is a key partner in the war against drugs. "I actually thought when I made that decision - and I also got a very strong recommendation, as you know, from the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein - but when I made that decision I actually thought that it would be a bipartisan decision", he said.
