Pemberton Music Festival suddenly cancelled

Pemberton Music Festival suddenly cancelled

The event owes $2.5 million to creditors, which means ticket buyers could have a hell of a time getting their refunds. Adding insult to injury, ticket holders will not receive automatic refunds.

However, Brennan says customers who have purchased a ticket by credit card via a third party website still have a chance to be refunded.

It says ticket holders can file a claim as an unsecured creditor, but estimates that process would take several weeks to resolve itself.

But that claim doesn't guarantee customers the full amount they paid.

"Ultimately, once the monies are recovered to the extent possible and creditors are known, they'll be in allocation of the monies at hand to the creditors based on their amount of the claim and the total games".

According to Vancouver radio station CKNW, Pemberton Music Festival cite "decreased ticket sales and increased operation losses" for the bankruptcy.

An estimated 55,000 fans may be left waiting for refunds.

Huka Entertainent, the producer contracted for the event, said in a statement that it did not make the decision to cancel the festival, which it claims came from Pemberton Music Festival LP. Those holding tickets for the B.C. festival can submit their tickets for validation and receive one free general admission weekend pass to WayHome, a multi-stage, award-winning festival located at Burl's Creek Event Grounds just outside of Barrie, Ont., about two hours from Toronto.

The festival had also tweeted as recently as Wednesday, with everything appearing normal.

The popular summer show has officially been cancelled for 2017 as the organizers have filed for bankruptcy.

That has since changed, with a banner explaining the situation blocking prospective buyers from purchasing tickets.

(UPDATE: 4:10 p.m.) - Pemberton Music Festival has deleted all of their social media channels. It read, "For the past four years Huka Entertainment has worked to create a one-of-a-kind experience in the most handsome place on earth".

"The Pemberton Music Festival has been significantly impacted since 2015 by a weakening Canadian dollar relative to the USA dollar as many of its entertainment costs are denominated in $US dollars", read a statement on the site.
