New homes must be marketed to Britons first, say Liberal Democrats

New homes must be marketed to Britons first, say Liberal Democrats

The party promised to pump an extra £6 billion a year into health and social care through a 1p rise in income tax and raise £1 billion in revenue by legalising cannabis.

Instead, he will claim that Theresa May is "on course to win" the General Election on June 8, and ask voters to let the Lib Dems replace Labour as the second-largest party in the House of Commons.

Mrs Bunting said: "These plans would build a brighter future for people in Newbury and West Berkshire and reverse Conservative cuts to our schools, hospitals and police".

And the manifesto pledges to give 16-year-olds the vote in all UK-wide elections and referendums.

The Liberal Democrat manifesto launch prompts the question: "Have they become Ukip in reverse?", says ITV's Robert Peston, adding: are they "a single issue party, in favour of keeping the United Kingdom in the European Union?"

Launching their manifesto today (Wednesday) ahead of the General Election next month, party leader Tim Farron said he wanted to launch a Green Transport Act and an Air Quality Plan to "reduce air pollution and protect United Kingdom citizens".

The main opposition Labour party has 31% while the Lib Dems lag behind on 9%, according to the survey of 1,630 people.

He said: "You can be pretty much absolutely certain the Liberal Democrats would get their money if they did this, and actually Labour wouldn't get that much money".

"You should have your say on the Brexit deal in a referendum".

The Lib Dems' pro-EU stance helped the party gain its ninth MP in the 650-seat parliament in a December by-election, beating the eurosceptic Conservative candidate by running a strongly anti-Brexit campaign.

Liberal Democrats support pressing ahead with the HS2 high speed rail line, and say they will "continue to champion the Northern Powerhouse and Midlands Engine initiatives and invest significant capital resources in infrastructure projects across the north of England and the Midlands".

The Lib Dems would also ensure transgender people are placed in prisons that reflect their gender identity, while allowing passports and official documents to include an X option for non-binary people.

In its manifesto the Lib Dems also pledge to guarantee the rights of European Union staff working in social care and for the National Health Service, in addition to boosting funding to these areas by £6 billion (£7.8 billion, 7 billion euros).

Conservative chairman Sir Patrick McLoughlin said: "This manifesto makes one thing abundantly clear: a vote for the Lib Dems is a vote to put Jeremy Corbyn in Downing Street".

Mr Farron said: "Air pollution in the United Kingdom is a killer".

Mr Farron was again forced off message over his religious views and had to confirm he supports a woman's right to terminate a pregnancy after a 2007 interview resurfaced in which he reportedly said abortion was "wrong".
