MotoGP riders show support as Hayden condition remains 'extremely serious'

Hayden, from Owensboro, Kentucky, was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital near Rimini before being transfered to the facility in Cesana.

MotoGP riders have shown their support for Nicky Hayden, who remains in an "extremely serious" condition following Wednesday's cycling accident in Italy.

"Once an official statement regarding Nicky's condition is released by the hospital or Nicky's family, a further update from the team will be issued", Hayden's Red Bull Honda WSBK team said in a statement. "The prognosis remains reserved".

"The clinical conditions of Nicky Hayden, hospitalised on Wednesday, May 17, remain extremely serious in the hospital resuscitation department of the Bufalini hospital in Cesena", a statement read. Due to his critical condition, he was transferred to the Bufalini Hospital.

The 35-year-old's fiancee and team members were at his bedside of the former MotoGP Champin who had won the Championship in 2006.

He suffered head and chest injuries in the accident and has been placed in an induced coma, according to reports.

UPDATE: Nicky has now been joined by his brother Tommy and mother Rose who arrived in Italy from the United States earlier today.

Hayden's family and team are now by his bed side, and the entire motorsport world has rallied behind the American praying for his quick recovery. Paramedics stabilized him on site, and then he was taken to the nearest hospital with the highest gravity code.

He started 216 races between 2003 and 2015, winning three. For him it was his farewell to MotoGP, I had just lost the world [title].

"His supportive gaze from his helmet was one of the few positive moments I had that day".

Stoner and Hayden, both MotoGP World Champions, were brought together by Ducati to form one of the strongest teams in 2009.
