Line of storms move through Lincoln; tornado threat clears

Cattle are killed, but there is no report of people being injured.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Mike Umscheid says radar images suggest the storm may have produced other brief, rain-wrapped tornadoes as it moved over rural farmland. "Between Chetek and Cameron there were several other areas that were damaged but this mobile home park was the center or the hub where most of our destruction is", Sheriff Fitzgerald explained. Mayor Jeff Martin in nearby Chetek (sheh-TEK') says turkeys can be seen wandering in the damage.

The Storm Prediction Center, or SPC, has issued a "high risk" warning for severe thunderstorms across parts of Kansas and Oklahoma, a rare event.

"Our rapid assessment teams were out as the storms were rolling late last night, and today we set up our mobile command unit", Porter said. He estimates the park had around 50 homes.

Authorities say at least one person died and an estimated 25 others were injured when a tornado struck a trailer park near Chetek in western Wisconsin. Lightning blew siding and bricks off a home in Lincoln and a funnel cloud was spotted about 40 miles southwest of the city, near Exeter, but no damage was reported. It was not immediately known if there were injuries. Fifty-three-year-old Bo Mikles was killed as he was apparently fleeing his home when his vehicle was thrown several hundred feet. Tree limbs were downed and damaged a home.

Smith says another round of severe storms is forecast Thursday and Friday, with more tornadoes possible. "But in these situations when you have a tornado like this you get a lot of rainstorms coming in the back side of it and that make the recovery effort so much hard".

The Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting those who lost their homes.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says the park is destroyed following a tornado that touched down in Barron County.

Another tornado flattened much of a subdivision on the southern fringe of Elk City, Oklahoma, about 110 miles (180 kilometers) west of Oklahoma City.

"We thought we were going to be digging for people here for days", Fitzgerald said.

Home after home was gutted by intense winds, tree tops were stripped clean and memories were spread out all over the ground of the Prairie Lake Estates mobile home park.
