Fernando Alonso: "I belong" at the Indianapolis 500

Fernando Alonso:

Alonso is making a one-off appearance at the Indy 500 on 28 May instead of racing at the Monaco Grand Prix, where he will be replaced by Britain's Jenson Button, who is coming out of retirement for one race.

As a 35-year-old rookie in the IndyCar Series, Alonso will run the Indy 500 for the first time on May 28, and in the weeks leading up to the race, he's been practicing behind the wheel of his new vehicle, and he's been driving pretty well considering it's his first time.

Two-time champion Fernando Alonso said he will be open to offers from rival teams if McLaren continue to struggle next season.

The Spaniard's bid for the Indy 500 has generated a ton of buzz, and it's more than merited. I'm not coming for a "week off" or to just have fun - I am a racer, I am coming to race. "I think that's a very unique thing for me at this event and also for them, so I have a little bit more attention than normal". "We executed qualifying well and I felt confident in the vehicle". "Especially if he comes out here and runs well, I think that will make a lot of drivers evaluate or investigate trying to get into the vehicle for the 500 [in future]".

"To sell the McLaren cars you need to open to new markets and especially the United States market is probably the biggest one". Because once race weekend comes around, it's go time.

Reigning Indianapolis 500 champion Alexander Rossi placed 13th, surrounded by the Penskes of Will Power, Juan Pablo Montoya and Hélio Castroneves, the three-time victor the most productive runner, completing 117 laps. I hope the feelings I feel, and the things I see stay in my mind forever. The remaining drivers in the field will then fall in line, 10-33 on the grid, based on speed. After a slow start during the practice session, Alonso seems to have caught up with the way everything works at the Indy 500 as he managed a fourth place finish in the fourth practice session.

The final day of practice is known as "Fast Friday" because cars are put into qualifying trim, with reduced downforce and increased power from the engines.

"So thanks to those big opportunities and the luck I have to be able to participate in those, winning is the next target".
