Facing Charges in NC in Massive United Blood Nation Gang Roundup

Federal and local law enforcement made dozens of arrests in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area as part of a massive gang crackdown operation, authorities announced Thursday morning.

United Blood Nation, an East Coast offshoot of the better-known Bloods gangs of California, is well known around Charlotte and a frequent target of law enforcement.

Those named in the indictment include suspects already in jail on state charges and at least one person who is living in Liberia.

A Western North Carolina grand jury has indicted 83 suspected gang members on dozens of charges, according to a release from the USA attorney's office. The indictment also says gang members engaged in bank fraud and wire fraud.

There are so many cases to process on Thursday that the courthouse is using three different judges in three different rooms to get through all of them.

The 83 suspects indicted in Western North Carolina are accused of homicides, robberies, witness tampering, narcotics offenses, identity thefts, racketeering, obstruction of justice, assaults and numerous other crimes starting in 2009 or earlier. Arrests were also made in Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, and NY.

Those named in the indictment include suspects already in jail on state charges and at least one person now living in Liberia.

Now, a new list of defendants, with gang names ranging from "Hardbody" and "Lady Rude", to "Kutthroat" and "Lady Gunz" have been accused of a total of 69 crimes, including six killings. The indictment says Lamonte "Murda Moo" Lloyd and Tyquan "Savage" Powell, committed the killings of Howard and Daniels early previous year. "We're just getting started".
