Erdogan Watched as His Goons Attacked Protesters

Washington considers the Syrian Kurds an effective force against IS.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu insisted at the time that Turkey was not seeking to become an adversary to the European Union, but complained about the approach.

"This kind of thing cannot go unresponded to diplomatically", and suggested lawsuits would be filed if the bodyguard responsible can't be identified.

"This is the United States of America, this isn't Turkey, this isn't a third-world country, and this kind of thing can not go un-responded to diplomatically and maybe in other ways", McCain added. We do not do this here.

In their Oval Office meetings Tuesday, Trump did not mention Erdogan's increasingly tight grip on power in Turkey or allegations of irregular elections under his leadership.

Video shown by Voice of America shows Erdogan in his vehicle outside the Turkish Embassy on Tuesday, talking to a member of his team who then heads to the protest (roughly 0:13 in the clip).

Attacking the small group of protesters with their fists and feet, men in dark suits and others were recorded repeatedly kicking one woman as she lay curled on a sidewalk.

Four of the attackers ganged up on Aziz - knocking him to the ground with punches to the head and repeatedly kicking him in the chest and head before police drove them away. At least 12 people were injured in the fight.

US Senator John McCain lashed out yesterday at Turkey, calling for the ambassador's expulsion after violence erupted between Turkish security personnel and demonstrators during a Washington visit by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish leader also said he believed Washington "will knock on our door on the issue of Syria", in quotes published by the Hurriyet daily.

The Trump administration hasn't commented on the violence, which was videotaped. The Turkish-Americans responded in self-defense and one of them was seriously injured.

McCain earlier in the day slammed Turkey's government over the violent clash, which transpired Tuesday outside the ambassador's residence on Washington's Embassy Row.

"Violence is never an appropriate response to free speech, and we support the rights of people everywhere to free expression and peaceful protest", said the statement.

The Turkish government doesn't seem to be getting the message.

Turks back home took pride in the security detail's behavior, using the hashtag #PKKyaOsmanlıTokadı, which means "Ottoman slap for the PKK".

This is the United States of America.

"The weapons provided will only be used in Raqqa and its south, they will absolutely not be used against Turkey, this will not be allowed", Cavusoglu said.

While it's understandable that his security detail might over-react if it perceived a serious threat to Mr. Erdogan's safety that doesn't excuse criminal acts.

The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reports that Turkish prosecutors are accusing Brunson of "delivering sermons to the Kurds with "a special objective, '" implying that he expressed support for Kurdish separatism or the Kurdistan Workers" Party (PKK), a us -designated Marxist terrorist group against which Turkey is now waging a military campaign in the southeast of the country.
