Donald Trump sharing intelligence with Russian Federation confirms Israeli officials' 'worst fears'

Besieged from all sides, the Trump administration appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller Tuesday evening as a special counsel to oversee the federal investigation into allegations Russian Federation and Donald Trump's campaign collaborated to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Democratic lawmakers have demanded that the Justice Department name a special prosecutor to investigate the Russian Federation matter.

The move comes as the Trump Administration continues to receive criticism over the abrupt firing of FBI Director James Comey. A few Republicans have began to call for an independent probe.

A Comey associate says Comey wrote a memo after his encounter with the president, and congressional committees investigating the Russian Federation ties have requested to see the memo and other related documentation.

As president, Donald Trump has the ability to declassify any classified information. Stocks fell sharply on Wall Street as investors anxious that the latest turmoil in Washington could hinder Trump's pro-business agenda.

Many Republicans agree that they should take a wait-and-see approach.

"We can't deal with speculation and innuendo, and there's clearly a lot of politics being played", House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said after a morning meeting with his colleagues. "We need the facts", Ryan said.

"The entire thing has been a witch hunt", Trump said during a press conference in the East Room of the White House. He offered to furnish a "record" of the Trump-diplomats meeting in the Oval Office if the White House desired it. We're trying to go the extra mile - we owe the White House the chance to present us with the information, present us with the truth.

Asked on his way out of the news conference whether he still retained confidence in Trump, Ryan replied: "I do".

Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and White House National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn will meet with the moderate Tuesday Group.

"At best, President Trump has committed a grave abuse of executive power", House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California said in a statement.

The controversy spooked investors, but Trump delivered a defiant message, complaining during a speech that he was being treated more unfairly than any other politician ever.

"Let's get to the bottom of what happened with the director".

"We're going to keep doing our jobs, we're going to keep passing our bills, we're going to keep advancing our reforms", Ryan said. Don't give in, don't back down.

Here's a little recap: The Washington Post broke a story saying Trump disclosed highly classified information on ISIS to the Russian ambassador and foreign minister during a closed-door meeting.

Both allegations came from anonymous sources, and the White House was quick to denounce the leaks and deny any impropriety, insisting the president never tried to squelch the Flynn investigation nor did he make inappropriate disclosures to the Russians.

"You have to put your head down and fight, fight, fight", President Trump said. "Or they do understand everything, and that means that they are risky and unscrupulous". The Comey memo caused alarm on Capitol Hill and raised questions about whether Trump attempted to interfere with a federal investigation.

Senator Richard Blumenthal of CT, a member of the Judiciary Committee, called the memo as reported "powerful evidence of obstruction of justice". Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said panel members were also inviting Comey to testify at an undetermined date.
