David Ayer In Early Talks To Direct 'Scarface' Reboot

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor Diego Luna had been attached to star for a few months now, but Variety - who revealed the news of Ayer's flirtation with directing - says they're unsure if Luna is still involved at this stage. Now we may get to see the Suicide Squad directorregain his popularity with the critics and fans - after all, Ayer (as a screenwriter) gave us The Fast and the Furious, Training Day and End of Watch.

The 1983 version of Scarface earned $65.9 million worldwide.

Universal and Ayer are just entering early talks, which could break down before anything is signed on the dotted line. Rather than setting the story in Miami, the new Scarface will take place in Los Angeles following a Mexican immigrant rather than a Cuban.

Originally, Antoine Fuqua was supposed to direct, but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

An explosive reimagining of one of the most iconic sagas in film history, Universal Pictures' Scarface shoots from a script polished by four-time Academy Award winners Joel Coen & Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men, Fargo). Don't worry, there won't be any zombies in the Scarface reboot.

Ayer is now putting the finishing touches on his Netflix film Bright, which stars Will Smith.

Ayer recently wrote and directed "Suicide Squad", which starred Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Cara Delevingne and and Viola Davis.

Scarface is being produced by Martin Bregman, the producer of the 1983 version, along with Dylan Clark for his Dylan Clark Productions and Scott Stuber.

Scarface is scheduled to hit theaters in August 2018. Anything is possible with DC.
