Commuters switch to their bicycles on Bike and Walk to Work Day

Friday, first-timers, once-a-year commuters, occasional riders and everyday bike commuters will be celebrating together for National Bike to Work Day.

"In addition to the lack of education by some bicycle riders and people who drive cars is this idea that we need to get someplace quickly", said Scott Johnson with Bike Austin.

"Within our 121 state parks and more than 2.2 million acres of state forestland, we are blessed with 11,000 miles of trails, all offering unlimited biking terrain and opportunities", said Dunn. "They do it because it's the most affordable way for them to get around, or they don't have a auto, or have other reasons why they don't drive". Cycling can be a healthy, environmentally friendly and economical way to get around.

Since their inception, National Bike to Work Day, National Bike to Work Week and National Bike Month have helped to increase the national number of bicyclists, one community at a time.

Another solution Dickson and Walk Bike Burbank have suggested is to convince the city to provide and improve the infrastructure for those choosing to ride their bicycles. "As an advocate, we'd wish they were doing more, but at least they have a plan in place and whenever there's a new project or a street is repaved, they're looking at options of making it safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists".
