Authorities search park where missing boy's father was found

Search dogs were being used alongside department members to search a two mile area of brush between Arroyo Park and the Arroyo Seco Golf Course for any evidence related to Andressian's disappearance following a recent tip, Sheriff's Department homicide Lt. Joe Mendoza said Thursday.

Ana Estevez reported her son, Aramazd Andressian Jr., missing on April 22 after his father failed to show up for a scheduled custody exchange in San Marino.

Detectives revealed Wednesday that the father acknowledged taking prescription pills and was found in a auto doused with gasoline, alongside a pack of matches.

Authorities have been searching for the boy since April 22, efforts that have led to Orange County - where the boy was last seen at Disneyland - and Santa Barbara County, where he and his father, Aramazd Andressian, Sr., may have been spotted at Lake Cachuma Recreation Area.

The reward to find the boy was doubled to $20,000 Tuesday, and Wednesday his mother Ana Estevez spoke in front of TV news cameras at the Hall of Justice in downtown Los Angeles.

Aramazd Andressian Sr. and his son are seen in a family photo.

"I was told that a good Samaritan found me unconscious on the ground near my vehicle, with young Aramazd nowhere in sight". Police plan to return to Arroyo Seco Park.

Andressian has said he's "heartbroken and grief-stricken that Aramazd missing and may be in harm's way".

Andressian Sr. told detectives he went to the park, took a prescription drug and the next thing he knew he woke up at a local hospital, according to Mendoza.

"We recovered a prescription bottle in the vehicle", Mendoza said.

Matches and a gasoline container were found inside the vehicle, Mendoza said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant on April 28 at Andressian's home in South Pasadena.

Mendoza said Andressian's statements have been inconsistent and misleading.

He said the last verified sighting of the child was at Disneyland around 1 a.m. April 21.

South Pasadena police asked for help from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on April 23.

A sheriff's flier details the missing child case.

Thursday's search will focus on the ravine and brush surrounding the park.

Miller said they went to federal authorities and verified Andressian Sr. didn't leave the country.

"At this point, we have all of our options open", Mendoza said.
