Rajnath tells chief ministers to ensure security of Kashmiris in their states

Six Kashmiri students at the Mewar University of Chittorgarh were allegedly beaten up by some local people in a market place on Wednesday apparently without any provocation.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has condemned the attack on a group of Kashmiri students at Rajasthan's Mewar University and appealed to all state governments to ensure safety of Kashmiris.

Anxious over the non-stop pro-freedom protests in the Kashmir Valley, New Delhi is now planning to "squeeze out" alleged funding of pro-freedom organisations from Middle East countries, India Today reported on Friday.

Calling the incident as "unfortunate", the minister said, "Kashmiris are citizens of India and part of our family".

The outfit had warned of a full-blown "Halla Bol" campaign from April 30 to "banish" Kashmiris who do not leave the state on their own.

The Kashmiri students have filed an FIR with the police. I appeal to all the youth to consider them as their brothers.

He also informed that he had already asked the home ministry to immediately circulate an advisory to all states in this regard. The students suffered minor injuries in the incident. They hurled abuses, called us terrorists and said we throw stones at the army.

Singh's statement came in the wake of reports alleging that Kashmiri students in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh were being threatened after the latest incidents of stone pelting and assault on security personnel by Kashmiri youths in the Valley. Recently, a hoarding has been put up in Meerut Uttar Pradesh asking Kashmiri's to leave the state.
