'I'm not 22 any more - but I've great years ahead'
Only three players had more major starts without a victory than Garcia before he donned the green jacket symbolic of Masters supremacy after almost two decades of major futility. On seventeen, Rose missed a putt and opened the door for Garcia, who had now tied things up as the two headed to the 18 tee. Rose already owned a two-shot cushion and Garcia's drive off the par-5 tee hooked left and into an azalea bush along the left side of the fairway.
This was the famous scissor kick major at Medinah when we all thought Garcia was going to win 10 of these things.
"It's wonderful to do this on Seve's birthday and to join him and Olazabal", Garcia said.
The caddies who've seen their partner don the green jacket get to keep the flags from the 18th hole of a major - Murray now has one from the Masters. "And I played well and Sergio and Justin, they were just too good coming in".
Garcia took his emotional, long-sought triumph over England's Rose, the 2016 Rio Olympic champion and 2013 US Open victor, after they finished deadlocked on nine-under par 279 for 72 holes at Augusta National.

After missing a 5-foot birdie at the 72nd hole, Garcia had to get through one extra hole to finally remove the stigma of being considered the best player never to win one of golf's biggest events.
With Rose lagging his long eagle attempt to tap-in distance, Garcia holed from 15 feet to get back on level terms, but Rose reclaimed the lead with a birdie on the 16th before failing to get up and down from a bunker on the 17th. "I will try to be second or third", he said.
He won the day that Ballesteros was born 60 years ago.
Garcia earned a $1.98 million at Augusta National - the richest prize in Masters history. "I knew I was playing well enough", Garcia said.
He suffered a double bogey at the tricky par three on Sunday.
"I'm here with so much just started". By late afternoon, the final pairing went to the back nine, where tradition tells us the Masters truly begins, and it soon became a two-man battle between Rose and Garcia.
"But I made peace with it, I accepted what Augusta gives and takes and it brought me here". Rose answered with birdies on 15 and 16, though, to take the lead by one before bogeying 17 and eventually heading to the playoff tied at 9 under.
"Obviously this is something I wanted to do for a long time, but it never felt like a horror movie", Garcia said.
And while Smith was a key component at the Games last summer, winning a silver medal in the pommel horse, he struggled to hide his emotions after losing out on gold to fellow Brit Max Whitlock - four years previously he had scored the same as Hungarian Krisztian Berki in the Olympic pommel, but came second by virtue of difficulty.
