Clippers win Game 2, even series with Jazz
The Utah Jazz were one of three road teams to steal Game 1 this past weekend in the first round of the 2017 NBA Playoffs.
He needs to get there quickly.
For the game, the Clippers shot 52.4 percent to 45.7 percent for the Jazz. The concern for the Jazz is his health, as he has dealt with lingering knee problems during the regular season.
In Gobert's stead, Jazz forward Derrick Favors has been given an expanded role at center. I hate to - like we're doing a great job on Redick and Crawford.
First, it was Jordan, as he elevated for an acrobatic reverse alley-oop in the opening minutes of the game. Lowry returned with four games remaining in the regular season.
He sat in a cushioned chair, kicked off his sneakers and reflected on his brief time with the Clippers: dinners out with Blake Griffin, riding the bus with DeAndre Jordan, running into Glen "Big Baby" Davis at the grocery store after being waived and getting wrapped into a massive hug. "I've just got to be ready from the get-go". But any moral victory that can be taken from a Gobert-less playoff loss frankly just isn't as fun as an actual win, but it's something.
Prior to Game 1, the Clippers were 32-8 when both Griffin and Paul played. "So being able to get out of a crutch, that's more progress than maybe we thought". "The paint doesn't necessarily mean DJ or Blake". The [Jazz are] long, they're big, they're strong, they're great defensively.
"Obviously a lot of us grew up playing that sport [Australian rules], it's a physical sport, but I didn't like the outdoors, the rain and the mud". If the Clippers had initially been slow to capitalize on Rudy Gobert's injury and struggled to pierce the Jazz's defense, they returned with more force and better ideas.
Game 1: Gordon Hayward posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds for Utah.
"He was good through adversity, which I thought was really good", Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. He's gotten tips on where to align himself on certain plays and screens, in addition to working on other offensive moves with his athleticism still not where it once was. "He's fighting through some fatigue". "It's loud. The decibel level in the arena, sometimes I'm not as aware of it during time outs". "He's different than Rudy, so we have to play to his strengths". He has his strengths. "Half-rolls, floaters, jumpers, just the stuff that he's done all year".
I'm throwing this matchup into the mix because George Hill's importance as the starting point guard is tantamount to the Jazz having any shot at winning this series, now that Gobert isn't down low to protect the rim.
"We want to redeem ourselves and we have a golden opportunity", Thompson said. I think there's an awareness that our guys have. "That's a personnel issue". Griffin finished with 24 points and Chris Paul chipped in with 21 points and 10 assists.
SALT LAKE CITY - For 15 hours, Joe Ingles had no one to talk to.
Paul was the best player on the court on Tuesday night. Rajon Rondo (11/9/14) almost posted a triple-double and also had five steals while Jimmy Butler (22/8/8) and Dwyane Wade (22/4/2) combined for 44 points. Cleveland trailed by 26 in the first half and was still down 74-49 at halftime.
In this era of 3-point shooting, old-fashioned big men still matter on the defensive end. He couldn't have done it without Chris Paul, who came out focused and firing, scoring or assisting on the Clippers' first seven of eight field goals. Making this blowout even more impressive was that they barely needed All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Portland center Jusuf Nurkic was listed as questionable Saturday after he missed the last seven games with a non-displaced fracture in his right leg.
