Aaron Hernandez's prison death shrouded in mystery
Former New England Patriots star and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his cell Wednesday morning, prison officials say.
The circumstances surrounding Hernandez's death are suspicious.
Hours before his former New England Patriots teammates were due to visit the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl victory, prison officials said, Aaron Hernandez tied one end of his bedsheet to a window and the other around his neck and hanged himself.
Guards found Hernandez just after 3 a.m., Correction Department spokesman Christopher Fallon said.
Sources also tell the I-Team that Hernandez had the bible verse John 3:16 written on his forehead and on the wall, a word carved into his arm, and the floor of his cell covered with soapy water so he could not change his mind.
The 22-year-old was said to be in the prison's health service unit, under a 24-hour "eyeball suicide watch".
That information comes from a joint statement from Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr., Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Col. Richard McKeon, and Secretary of Public Safety Daniel Bennett.
In death, Aaron Hernandez may not be a guilty man in the eyes of the law.
"It is our position that they are holding Aaron Hernandez's brain illegally", Baez said.
Hernandez was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Patriots and signed a four-year contract extension less than a year before Lloyd's death. Both were put on trial for murder: Simpson for the deaths of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman in 1994, and Hernandez for the death of Odin Lloyd in 2013.
TMZ Sports added that Hernandez's family is "devastated" at the news, and don't believe he was in such despair that he would kill himself. "That was a positive thing in our minds", said Alex Cugno, who grew up with Hernandez in Bristol.
The child molestation conviction of former Roman Catholic priest John Geoghan, a key figure in the clergy sex abuse scandal that rocked the Boston archdiocese, was vacated after he was beaten to death in 2003 in his cell at the same MA maximum-security prison.
The odd timing of the suicide has led to theories that Hernandez was murdered, a theory espoused by several people in his inner circle. Hernandez also gets engaged to his girlfriend of five years, Shayanna Jenkins, that month and the young family moves into $1.3 million home that Hernandez purchases in North Attleborough, Massachusetts. "I will forever miss you and love you bro".
