In a terrible incident in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh, at least 15 people were killed and several injured after a major fire broke out at a kerosene distribution centre.
The fire reached the kerosene drums stored in the shop for distribution and quickly spread to all directions, eyewitnesses said. Due to the massive amount of kerosene stocked up at the ration shop, the fire soared to an unprecedented level.
According to Chhindwara SP Gaurav Tiwari, 14 dead bodies have been recovered from the community hall out of which eight have been identified while six have still not been identified. However, news agency PTI has confirmed the demise of 15 individuals.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Efforts are underway to evacuate them safely.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh for the next of kin of those killed in Chhindwara fire.
