Teen rescued after plunging through ice on Central Park pond

Two teen boys made a decision to take a selfie Sunday night on an ice-covered Central Park lake - and fell in for their trouble, officials said.

The individual, whose identity wasn't immediately released, tumbled into the waters of The Pond near East 59th Street and East Drive about 1:14 p.m., the FDNY and Parks Department said.

The mother of one of the teens who fell in the pond in February reacted with appropriate incredulity in an interview after the incident, telling ABC 7, "A selfie?" They were in stable condition.

The young men, all 15 and 16 years old, had to be fished out of the small lake after venturing onto what they mistakenly thought was solid ice.

Two officers nearby responded and rescued the boy. The teenagers had no visible signs of injuries, but were taken to St. Lukes Hospital for observation, officials said. "You risk your life and the lives of first responders".
