Police Release New Details in Delphi Double Murder
The evidence was a video clip retrieved from the cell phone of one of the victims.
Indiana State Police played a clip of the man's voice during a news conference at which officials appealed for more tips from the public and announced that $41,000 in reward money had been raised.
Bursten said while the quality of the audio clip is poor, investigators believed someone could recognize the voice of the person who was with the girls. Investigators believe the clip was recorded as criminal behavior was about to occur. Investigators called her a hero for thinking to take the recording, but they say they won't be releasing any other parts of the video.
The PSA includes the chilling three-word audio clip - "down the hill" - previously published by police.
Police continue to ramp up efforts to find the person behind the voice recorded by 14-year-old Liberty German shortly before she and 13-year-old Abigail Williams were killed February 13. An autopsy revealed their identities. Tony Slocum told reporters, according to the Indy Star. The photo appears to depict a White male wearing blue jeans, a blue coat/jacket, and a hoodie.
"We are actively looking for this person".
Capt. David Bursten said investigators aren't certain the voice was that of the photographed man whom investigators are calling the main suspect in the deaths.
Authorities investigating the slayings of two girls in the IN have received over 500 tips since making an impassioned plea on Wednesday for people to come forward with information, a law enforcement source close to the investigation told ABC News today.
Gregory Massa, the Federal Bureau of Investigation assistant special agent in charge in Indianapolis, asked the public to think back to February 13, the day the girls went missing. "We will be here until this case is solved, and I am confident this case will be solved".
"This is a classic example and clear example that evil lives amongst us", he told reporters at the Delphi Methodist Church this morning.
